Fixing Scratches and Water Marks In Your Furniture

Repairing your furniture professionally after every occasion that it gets damaged is just not practical or affordable for the majority of people.You should not concern yourself however as most of the damages can be put right without too much effort and without wasting lots of money on professionals. Here are a number of great methods for putting right 2 common damages.Please note that you should allows use an inconspicuous piece of the furniture to test the methods first

Water Rings

All it takes is someone to carelessly place a cup or glass down on the dining room furniture not using a coaster and you’re left with unsightly marks. Getting rid of them however is not something that should be a big task by any means. Ironing the marks out of the wood works very well. Just use a clean cloth to cover over the damaged piece of wood and keep ironing over it until the mark disappears.  If the stain won’t budge completely, pour some acidic fruit juice over it, ideally lemon and leave it over night. The acid will work into the stain and when you rise in the morning you should find the stain has gone. If there is by any chance any remaining hint of a mark, iron over it again and this should do the trick.

Scratches

Just through general wear and tear, furniture will pick up scratches. You should not need to just put up with them however when they do occur. Most type of scratch can be rectified by adopting one of a few different methods.light scratches can often be vanished by rubbing over them with the exposed part of a walnut that has been cut in half.Furniture polish can also be added to this technique for cuts and marks that do not disappear using the walnut alone. For any more serious damage you can use a mixture of denatured alcohol and a minuscule amount of lacquer thinner. Use a high quality fine painting brush to work the mixture along the grain and blend the lacquer over the scratched area. Leave to dry and retry if not successful.

If your paint covered nice white furniture gets any damage such as a piece of white bedroom furniture then do not use the techniques above. You are much better off painting over the affected part and rubbing it back down so it looks the same as the rest of the wood
